Kuniko Yagi, formerly of Hinoki & the Bird and Comme Ça, is set to open Japanese fried chicken spot Pikunico at ROW DTLA.
A Season 10 contestant on Top Chef after leaving her job as a banker in Tokyo, Yagi plans to incorporate simple flavors from the food she grew up eating in Japan into her new menu as she looks to differentiate Pikunico from the myriad fried chicken offerings throughout Downtown LA. According to ROW DTLA, Pikunico will also serve patrons picnic-style sandwiches, salads, & sides along with beer, wine, coffee, and tea.
The build-out of the forthcoming fast-casual restaurant has yet to commence so expect Pikunico to make its debut by the end of summer instead of its projected May opening given the drawn out nature of construction elsewhere at ROW DTLA. The project marks the second for Yagi in the greater Downtown LA area as Little Tokyo awaits the long-delayed arrival of Tokyo Strike, part ramen shop & diner, on 4th and Main.
