The build-out of Bestia chef/proprietor Ori Menashe’s highly anticipated Middle Eastern restaurant Bavel appears to be wrapping up and the result is nothing short of stunning. Located mere blocks from the restaurant that’s made Menashe one of the biggest stars in town, Bavel will draw heavily from the chef’s Israeli background to bring innovative upscale fare to Arts District patrons in what’s been a labor of love to make a dream a reality over the past half decade. As previously reported by Eater LA, look for Genevieve Gergis, Menashe’s wife and a notable pastry chef in her own right, to oversee the dessert program at Bavel as she’s done at Bestia. There’s no official word on when Downtown LA should expect to see Bavel open for business, but a late March / early April debut would not be unlikely given the significant progress Menashe, who began interviewing for all positions in early February, has already made.
